Kyde's Book Review

Introduce the book.

GANGSTA GRANNY
By: David Walliams

What was the book ABout. Don’t give away the ending.

There is a boy called Ben who doesn't like stay the night at his granny’s.  But he has to because his parents like to watch ballroom dancing for a very long time.
But Ben finds out something really cool about his granny that he liked.

What was your favourite part of the book or what helped you make a connection.

When his granny goes high speed on the motorway on a scooter.

Give a recommendation.

If you like Boy in the Dress, also by David Walliams, you will love this.

I think this book should by for boys and girls my age, 10.

Reading Graphs

Look carefully at this graph. Look at all parts of the graph to help you work out what it says.

Units are items that have been sold that month. For example: each unit could be a laptop computer.
Questions:
In which month did they sell the most units?
Which month did they sell the least units?
How many units did they sell in Oct? - have a good guess as it is not totally clear.

Which were the best 3 months for sales of units?

Why do you think they sold so many units in December?
Which months did they sell the same amount of units?

Arts Rotation

We will be making these as part of our Arts rotation on a Monday.

Bag design Competition

Kids Keep Hutt City Beautiful - Reusable bag design competition 2014

We're seeking young talent to design reusable bags for Keep New Zealand Beautiful Week, held 14-20 September this year.

School students are asked to design their vision of a city free of plastic bags. Judges, including Mayor Ray Wallace and Eco Fashion Exposed director Denise Anglesey, will choose winners in two age groups (12 and under, and 13-18) in August. The winning designs will be printed on bags to be sold at local stores to raise awareness of the need to reduce the use of plastic bags.

The winner of each category will receive an eco-friendly custom-made bicycle assembled by Bike-Tech, an initiative of the Secret Level youth centre.  The two schools that provide the most entries will each receive an i-Pad2.
Facts about the environmental impact of plastic bags

• Plastic bags cause over 100,000 marine animal deaths every year when animals mistake them for food.

• Most plastic bags take over 400 years to degrade. Some figures indicate that plastic bags could take over 1000 years to break down. (I guess nobody will live long enough to find out!). This means not one plastic bag has ever naturally broken down.

• New Zealanders use 1 billion plastic shopping bags per year, that’s about 250 each!

Tomorrow, I will go to school.

Yesterdays word was:

That man over there is an elderly person.

Todays word is:

Newspaper.

We need some newspaper!

We will be doing a variety of art works over the next few weeks. If you have any spare newspaper at home could you please bring it to school.

Here are some clues as to what our first piece of art will involve.

Modern Learning Environment

We have moved all of our things into Room 5 and will be permanently in there from next term.

In Room 5 we are trying to create a modern learning environment. We are trying to do this by creating different spaces in our room and utilising the area as well as we possibly can. To help us do this we were wondering if you had any bean bags and/or cushions we could borrow until the end of the year. We are also keen to find some spare low book shelves or alternatively anyone who has any idea on how we could make some temporary shelving.

We will be changing the name of our blog due to the room change but it will have the same web address.

Our new blog name will be Fantastic 5.

Hope you all have a great holiday!

Stay safe and have fun.

We are moving classes!! New Blog name ideas!!

Tomorrow we start moving our class.

We are moving from Room 9 to Room 5. We are really looking forward to having more space. Since we looked at the room last week, we have been using our imaginations to think about how we would like to use it.

Here are some of our ideas.

  • On the lino we should put our hand prints on it to show creativity - Grace m

  • I think we should have a art wall because it will make the classroom have a bling - India

  • We should have at least 3+ learning corners. One is the library, technology corner and a extra one if there is enough space - William B

  • We should have a little chalkboard each and we should put them on the wall and write how we’re feeling today it would help us let other people know that we’re either not too good so people will give us a bit of space or that they’re really happy so we can hang out with them and we don’t have give them so many chances - Isla

  • We should have a place where we/you put some maths questions on so each day we can test ourselves and on Friday MissM tests us Because it helps us with our maths. By the whiteboard there should be clouds so when you’re teaching us, we can use our imagination - Amisha

  • Since some of us want clouds stuck on the wall and you could write stuff on it. If there is any spare whiteboards, we could cut them out into cloud shape.

  • I think we should have a corner where we can chill - James. D

  • I think we should be aloud to have a bean bag each or have as a chair a wheely chairs:-) And in a corner should be like somewhere like where we can do Daily 5! - Ariana :D

  • We should have a tv because it can make our class much bigger
      by amil

  • I think we should have a little hut for maths. a wall for all the all good work. go kart chairs, moon hoppers and a fun and sporty display to the class - by Tobey

  • We should try and get a Reading to Someone Corner- Rohan :D

Hopefully the weather is good tomorrow!

As we will no longer be in Room 9, we need to change the name of our blog.

What are your ideas?
